Après-Ski Activities & Dining in Hokkaido

Hokkaido’s ski resorts aren’t just about world-class powder; they also offer vibrant après-ski scenes with cozy bars, hot springs, and incredible dining experiences.
However, it’s important to note that the après-ski culture in Hokkaido is quite different from what you may expect in Western ski destinations. With the exception of Niseko and the more Western-friendly resorts, there is no real slope-side après-ski scene.

Those blurry austrian memories of dancing on the tables in ski boots while downing schnapps shots and large beers are most certainly not going to be replicated in Hokkaido.

Instead, après tends to merge into evening dining and nightlife, usually requiring a trip into town first.

For drinks and socializing, it’s often best to visit an onsen first, change into fresh clothes, and then head into town where you can experience Hokkaido’s izakayas, bars, and casual dining spots.

Plan Your Perfect Après-Ski Experience

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing onsen soak, an izakaya night, or a bowl of piping hot ramen, Hokkaido’s après-ski scene has something for everyone.
Keep in mind that après-ski here differs from the Western experience—most of the best spots are in town, not slope-side, so planning ahead can make for a smoother experience.
